Welcome to the wiki SRD for Cursed Land. Featuring a high-fantasy and low magic setting, Cursed Land is a tabletop roleplaying game set in a unique world centred around the vast city of Carcosa.
Once a flourishing metropolis - buoyed by sorcery and home to the goddess Hali - a series of catastrophies led the Livid City and the human civilisation it represented to ruin.
Character Creation is straightforward; compared to other tabletop RPGs, Carcosa's character progression is simple and open-ended. A subjective system of Aspects, Attributes, and Skills to invent or discover means PCs are unique: developed by adventure and far from arbitrary.
The city of Carcosa is ancient beyond memory; since use of the Waygates has been outlawed, contact with the rest of Wyrd is reduced to a slow trickle of disquieting rumours. The myriad Guilds have turned inwards - seeking powerful fragments of lost Lore.
The many Districts of Carcosa are varied and rich, each with their own allures and dangers. Scavenge among the broken palaces of Mountforest; vie for contracts with the gangs of Low Garden; find answers in the dusty labyrinths of Dogrun or foment uprising among the forgotten masses of The Chawls.. Carcosa contains a wealth of adventure, discoverable treasure and opportunities to make your mark.
The practices of Sorcery are in principle attainable to any Undying PC - there are no specific magic-wielding classes in Cursed Land. However, sorcery is very rare and the controlled wielding of it even rarer.
To date, sorcerers have been hunted ruthlessly by Guild Profane's fanatical leader Aldebar for a generation; his Heterodoxy's claim that sorcery's endgame is the ascension to godhood is a threat too terrible for the inquisitors not to eradicate sorcerers utterly... and he has the rabble scared, too.
Employ the services of Retainers ranging from messengers and linkboys, peasants, merchants, mercenaries and guilders. Ingratiate yourself in the various factions and courts to be found in the Livid City. But beware, making one friend might earn you an enemy elsewhere!
Carcosa is full of factions vying for power or struggling to survive - you can uncover the myriad secrets it holds, or begin to frame your own.. but you'll inevitably become tangled in the schemes of the Guilds or High Families before too long.
..in the annals of Lore: on the Wurld Events page, Game Masters can track their campaigns progress and participate in up-to-date metastory. GMs can also flag their campaigns eligible for special community sessions with each campaign taking sides according to their Influence stats.
Finally, Investments are campaign-run establishments that provide meaningful services and can be interacted with by any other campaign using Cursed Land's community resources and the online map. Campaigns can trade loot or goods from their crafting or gathering professions.
Swathes of Wyrd are still uncharted; the vast megacontinent stretches leagues in all directions to an encircling Sea. Due to the tumultuous events of the last thousand years, very few still journey beyond city bounds. Even our closest allies have fallen silent. That can't be a good sign...
